Como-Pickton Takes On North Hopkins To See Who Remains Undefeated In District
  • PublishedOctober 6, 2023

Friday night is a big one in District 12-2A, as two undefeated teams will go up against each other. Both Como-Pickton and North Hopkins are each having great seasons so far, but only one of them will get to claim first place in the district after Friday night’s match in North Hopkins.

Both teams not only come into the game with a perfect 4-0 record in district play, but with much longer winning streaks. The Lady Eagles of Como-Pickton currently ride a seven-game wining streak, while the Lady Panthers of North Hopkins will be looking for a 10th consecutive victory.

North Hopkins has been on fire all season, going 24-7 up to this point and climbing all the way to No. 12 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association State Volleyball Poll. Their last loss was all the way back on Sept. 2, over a full month ago.

In that time span North Hopkins has not only been winning, but they’ve been flat out dominating everybody they’ve gone up against. In their nine-game winning streak they have dropped just one set, winning the other eight games in straight sets.

The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles have been playing at a similarly dominant level, going 22-10 in their first 32 games and winning each of their last seven. Since their last loss, just one week later than North Hopkins’ on Sept. 8, the Lady Eagles have won 21 sets and have dropped just five.

While there is still plenty of volleyball left to play, their winner of Friday’s match will have sole possession of first place in the district. The two teams will match up against each other one more time in the final game of the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 24.
