The 54th annual Hopkins County Fall Festival, presented by Nottingham’s Sulphur Springs Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, is back and promises to be better than ever! With a diverse range of events and activities lined up throughout October, this year’s festival is set to provide maximum fall fun for attendees of all ages.

October: Hay Bale Contest

The festival kicks off with the Hay Bale Contest, sponsored by Texas Heritage National Bank. These hay bales are a creative display of artistry all around town throughout the month of October. It’s a delightful way for the community to showcase their artistic talents and celebrate the season.  For information on how to participate in the fun, email Shirley Patchen at tallt75501@aol.com

October 11-15: Talley Amusements Homecoming Carnival

Starting on October 11, the Talley Amusements Carnival will take over the SSHS parking lot, thanks to the sponsorship of City National Bank. This carnival will run through October 15, offering exciting rides for all ages, games, fair food, and more. Tickets for the carnival are available for purchase at Super Handy Convenience Stores and at the gate for just $25.  It’s the perfect opportunity for families to enjoy a night of fun together.

October 21: Fall Festival Parade

The Fall Festival Parade, sponsored by Bell Concrete, is set to begin at 10 a.m. on October 21. The parade will wind its way from Buford Park to Brookshire’s Grocery Store, featuring local first responders, civic groups, businesses, churches, and more. If you’d like to participate in the parade, simply email nyetaylor2@gmail.com. Line up at Buford Park at 9 a.m.!  Following the parade, don’t forget to stop by the Autumn on Main Market for live music, food, & shopping. 

October 27-28: Creative Arts Contest, Arts & Crafts Market, KidZone, and Local Vendor Exhibition

On October 27-28, the SSHS Conference Room will host the Creative Arts Contest, giving Hopkins County residents the chance to showcase their talents in quilting, woodworking, baking, and more. This event, sponsored by Farm Country Inc., is a testament to the creative spirit of our local artists. Public viewing is available after judging until 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday.  For more information on age divisions & entry categories for the Creative Arts Contest, contact the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 903-885-3443. 

Craft enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Arts & Crafts Show, also sponsored by Farm Country, Inc., taking place in the SSHS Cafeteria. This market for crafts only will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. From wreaths to handmade soaps and pickles to holiday decor, there’s something for everyone. Contact the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office at 903-885-3443 for more information.

Meanwhile, the Hopkins County Civic Center will come alive with exhibition and vendor booths. Outside you’ll find the KidZone, sponsored by Signature Solar, full of free entertainment for the little ones.  Endless fun is to be had with bounce houses, a petting zoo, horse rides, sno cones and face painting.  Let the kids hangout while you check out the Vendor Exhibit featuring boutiques, small businesses, and organizations. It’s the perfect opportunity for shopping enthusiasts to discover unique offerings from clothing to crafts.  10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Other October Highlights

In addition to the Fall Festival, Hopkins County has a full slate of exciting October events. There’s the Homecoming parade featuring SSHS sports and organizations on October 12, Homecoming festivities and football game on October 13 at Gerald Prim Stadium, Senior night for SSHS Wildcats on October 27, and the World Famous Hopkins County Stew Contest on October 28 at Buford Park.


Hopkins County is set to have a blast all month long, so mark your calendars and join in on the festivities. The 2023 Fall Festival promises to be a celebration of community spirit and creativity that can’t be missed!
