Earth Day 2022 with The Plant Niche

Earth Day 2022 with The Plant Niche
  • PublishedApril 25, 2022

This past Saturday, April 23, Sulphur Springs celebrated Earth Day.

The Plant Niche hosted a symposium on the town square regarding conservation. Speakers from Texas A&M AgriLife took to the stage to hold a forum regarding plants and conservation for those attending, with Plant Niche owner Erika Mayorga moderating.

“I felt it was necessary to do Earth Day big this year,” Mayorga said. “And to do it at the square– why not?”

AgriLife’s Master Gardeners program as well as Hopkins County Bee Club were some of the panel guests Mayorga interviewed for the crowd. Mayorga also interviewed Cody Rackley of Haus of Sabo design firm about using plant life in interior decorating.

Mayorga said she hoped sharing her “geeky” love of plants would inspire participants to create their own butterfly and bee gardens with take-home materials The Plant Niche provided.

Participants were given wildflower seeds provided by Chad’s Media.

“We want to plant more seeds and welcome more pollinators in our community,” Mayorga said.

The Plant Niche also hosted supplemental activities, including face painting, yoga lessons, a succulent bar, a taco stand and nature-themed freebies.

Coloring pages were provided by the Chamber of Commerce, and flower crowns donated by Front Porch News. Other sponsors included Alliance Bank, DSS, Signature Solar and FitWhit.

VR Social also participated in Earth Day by planting a pollinator garden at their location on 317 Spring Street.
