The No. 10 ranked Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Marshall Tuesday, looking to improve their district record to 5-0. The Lady Cats entered the day with a ton of momentum, riding a six-game winning streak and as winners in nine of their last 10 games.

Crimson Bryant once again took the mound for the Lady Cats and got off to a great start, striking out five batters in the first two innings. The only base runner she allowed in the first two innings was a two-out walk in the bottom of the second.

The Sulphur Springs offense came to life in the top of the third, starting with a leadoff walk from Emerson Thompson. After a sacrifice bunt that moved Thompson to second, Jadyn Harper and Nicole Higgins each drew walks, loading the bases with one out.

Later in the frame, with the bases still loaded and two outs, Bryant helped herself out, drawing a walk which brought in the first run of the game. With a one-run lead, Parris Pickett blew the game wide open, hitting a grand slam to put the Lady Cats’ ahead 5-0.

Marshall tried their best to fight their way back into the game, despite Bryant striking out the first two batters in the bottom of the third. The Lady Mavericks put together back-to-back hits, driving in one run and cutting the Sulphur Springs lead to four runs.

Both teams were quiet over the next few innings, as Bryant took her game to the next level on the mound. Bryant struck out the side in the fourth and fifth innings, before picking up another three strikeouts in the bottom of the sixth.
