Lady Cats climb inside Top-10 in rankings

The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats have gotten off to a very impressive start this season, picking up where they left off after a strong playoff run a year ago. The Lady Cats have gradually climbed their way up the Texas Girls Coaches Association Sate Softball poll, week-after-week finding themselves a bit higher.
Now with three district games under their belt and an overall record of 13-1-2, Sulphur Springs finds themselves in the Top 10 of this weeks poll, coming in at No. 10. The Lady Cats are a perfect 4-0 in district play and have done so in a dominating fashion.
The Lady Cats opened district play back on March 9, with a home game against Hallsville. Crimson Bryant had a great outing on the mound, striking out 16 in a complete game, even taking a perfect game into the seventh inning, before Sulphur Springs won by a final score of 3-1.
Both Sulphur Springs and Bryant followed that up with very impressive performances against Longview, as the Lady Cats went on to win 2-0. Bryant threw the complete game shutout, striking out 15 batters and allowing only four hits.

In their third district outing, the Lady Cats had a tough match on their hands, going up against Mount Pleasant who was also ranked in the Top-15. It took eight innings to get the job done, but the Lady Cats put up an impressive six runs in the top of the eighth, winning the game by a final score of 6-0.
In their most recent district outing, the Lady Cats found themselves playing from behind, getting down 4-0 after the top of the third. The Lady Cats began to claw their way back, and found themselves down 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh.
Down to their final out, Parris Pickett hit a two-out double, driving in the tying run and putting the winning run in scoring position. Kinz Smallwood followed up with a walk-off single, giving Sulphur Springs the 5-4 win, and keeping them undefeated in district play.
The now No. 10 ranked Lady Cats will look to stay undefeated in district play, with a road match against Marshall tonight. Marshall has lost a pair of district games, falling to Mount Pleasant 12-3 and Texas High 9-4.
