The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats have gotten off to a very impressive start this season, picking up where they left off after a strong playoff run a year ago. The Lady Cats have gradually climbed their way up the Texas Girls Coaches Association Sate Softball poll, week-after-week finding themselves a bit higher.

Now with three district games under their belt and an overall record of 13-1-2, Sulphur Springs finds themselves in the Top 10 of this weeks poll, coming in at No. 10. The Lady Cats are a perfect 4-0 in district play and have done so in a dominating fashion.

The Lady Cats opened district play back on March 9, with a home game against Hallsville. Crimson Bryant had a great outing on the mound, striking out 16 in a complete game, even taking a perfect game into the seventh inning, before Sulphur Springs won by a final score of 3-1.

Both Sulphur Springs and Bryant followed that up with very impressive performances against Longview, as the Lady Cats went on to win 2-0. Bryant threw the complete game shutout, striking out 15 batters and allowing only four hits.

In their most recent district outing, the Lady Cats found themselves playing from behind, getting down 4-0 after the top of the third. The Lady Cats began to claw their way back, and found themselves down 4-3 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Down to their final out, Parris Pickett hit a two-out double, driving in the tying run and putting the winning run in scoring position. Kinz Smallwood followed up with a walk-off single, giving Sulphur Springs the 5-4 win, and keeping them undefeated in district play.

The now No. 10 ranked Lady Cats will look to stay undefeated in district play, with a road match against Marshall tonight. Marshall has lost a pair of district games, falling to Mount Pleasant 12-3 and Texas High 9-4.
