The city of Sulphur Springs will welcome another landmark this week: in addition to being home of the world’s only permanent glass restrooms, the city will now become part of the largest outdoor gym network at Pacific Park.

The city invites all visitors to the unveiling of fitness equipment on March 11 at 10:30 a.m. in Pacific Park.

The fitness gyms, installed outdoors with help from the National Fitness campaign, are now in over 10,000 cities across the U.S.

The outdoor gym features seven areas with seven different types of exercise to target all aspects of the body needed for general conditioning. The National Fitness Campaign suggests users spend one minute on each to improve physical fitness.

Through Texas Parks and Wildlife, Sulphur Springs was granted $25,000 to install the outdoor gym. Further, CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital and Saputo contributed to match the grant, making it financially feasible for the city to install.

According to the National Fitness Campaign, any age, fitness level or ability level can use the outdoor gym.

“New users can also download the free Fitness Court App — a coach-in-your-pocket style platform — that transforms the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness system,” the National Fitness Center noted.

The app, entitled ‘Fitness Court”, is available for iOS and Android.

Several citizens have already expressed interest in using the outdoor gym.

“Can’t wait to try it out!” said resident Demetra Robinson on social media.
