UIL released the new district alignments for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years Thursday. After moving to 4A recently, Sulphur Springs football is officially a member of District 8-4A.
Along with Sulphur Springs, District 8-4A will consist of Anna, Kaufman, Mabank, Never Community and Paris. With it being the Wildcats’ first season under new coach Brandon Faircloth, the luxury of playing unfamiliar opponents could be a positive thing.
Their most recent match against any of the new District 8-4A members was back in 2016, when they fell to Paris in a close 36-35 game. Sulphur Springs was able to win the match before that, however, by a commanding score of 43-9, forcing a split between the two teams in their most recent two matches.

For basketball, Sulphur Springs will be in District 15-4A, in which they will also be joined by Paris again. Other members of the district will include Paris North Lamar, Pittsburg, Texarkana Liberty-Eylau and Texarkana Pleasant Grove.
The Wildcats faced Paris in a very early season match this year, with Sulphur Springs walking away with the 63-49 win. Paris is currently the No. 24 ranked 4A team according to TABC.
