The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats fell to Mount Pleasant on Tuesday night in a 3-2 loss.  The first half of the game it was a struggle for either side to connect with the back of the net.  In the end, Mount Pleasant managed to get a breakaway goal, that the defense tried to run down but they were just a step behind.  Zoe Haywood did a good job in goal and was able to help shut down the Lady Tigers, which helped the team to stay above water.  Both sides had good give and go through out the game.

The second Mount Pleasant goal was from a penalty kick.  Vanessa Wayne collided with a player in the box and the referee called the foul against her.  Haywood dove the correct direction for the ball, but it was just far enough away from her hands that she was unable to reach to make the save.  It was an unfortunate call overall, and that closed out the half with the Lady Tigers up 2-0.

The second half started out with a little more give and go between the teams and each team striving to reach the end zone and the back of the net.  Mount Pleasant scored their third goal during this time, bringing the stadium’s feeling further down.

The game makes a turn when a free kick, kicked by Kylie Clarke is popped up by the keeper and pushed away, and Haylee Schultz was able to put the finishing touch on the ball and send it to the back of the net.  That goal put some fire into the players, and you could feel the excitement in the crowd and on the field.

Schultz makes another breakaway on the outside and pulls out a cross to Valerie Flecker who smashes the ball into the back of the net.  The Lady Cats are now trailing by one.  The hometown crowd is fired up and they can see that these girls are going to push until the very end.  Both sides continued to cheer on their teams till the end of the game.  It was not with out effort that the varsity team fell to Mount Pleasant, they kept trying to make drives to the back of the net.

I talked with Haylee Schultz at the end of the game to find out more about her, here is what she had to say.

How long have you been playing soccer?  12 years

What are you hoping to achieve this season? I want to achieve first team all-district and be the top goal scorer for our team.

Has any player given you inspiration?  I’d say Messi, he came from nothing.

She also stated that she hopes to you see join us at the stadium.  Come out and support your Lady Cats as they make their way through their district season.  The next scheduled game is Friday, in Texarkana against Texas High.
