The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are back in action Tuesday, with a road match against North Lamar. The Wildcats are still looking for their first official win of the season, after a busy weekend of tournament action.

Sulphur Springs’ varsity team played a pair of games last Thursday, starting with a 2-0 loss to Kilgore. Later that day they took on Paris, where they fell by an even closer score of 1-0.

After a day off Friday, the Wildcats were back in action, this time against Sunnyvale. While the Wildcats defense once again held their opponents to just two points, unfortunately they were unable to find any offense of their own, losing 2-0.

“Good things are coming, we must keep getting healthy and keep believing in the brotherhood,” head coach Alexi Upton said. The Wildcats ended the weekend with a record of 0-9-2.

Despite the varsity team still looking for their first win, the junior varsity and freshmen teams have had better luck. The freshmen team currently has a record of 2-3-2, thanks to a 1-1 draw against Forney their last time out. Matthew Brito scored the lone goal for the Wildcats freshmen team, thanks to an assist from Candelario Rodriguez.

The junior varsity team has also seen a bit more success, racking up a record of 1-5-2 through their first eight games. Due to COVID problems with North Lamar, the freshman and junior varsity teams will be facing different opponents Tuesday.

While the varsity team will still be facing North Lamar at 5:30 p.m. the freshman team will now be at home, where they will face Mount Vernon at 4 p.m.

The junior varsity will travel to Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, for a 5:30 p.m. start. Coverage of all the games will be provided on Front Porch News.
