Gems of Color, a mentoring program for teen girls of color, is seeking volunteers.

The organization, founded by Sulphur Springs resident Reiko Alexander, describes itself as “a mentoring and etiquette program that seeks to build character and strengthen identity by making a positive distinction in the lives of young women age 12-18.”

The program hopes that community leaders will help young women increase their self-esteem and social development, Alexander said.

The program is designed for volunteers with all levels of leadership and commitment ability, Alexander noted. All volunteers must complete an application and will be asked to submit to a background check.
