The power outages and rolling power outages in Hopkins County are affecting Atmos’ natural gas supply, according to Sulphur Springs City Manager Marc Maxwell.
Maxwell said, “Every time a blackout hits they(Atmos) lose pressure in the system. Apparently the stations that pressurize the system are not backed up, they just run off the grid. This is causing problems for us at the police department because our backup generator runs off of natural gas and there is insufficient gas pressure to power it.”
The City of Sulphur Springs’ 911 services are being rerouted to the county.
Maxwell encouraged community members to conserve on electricity and natural gas as much as possible.
