Mertis Faye Clayton, age 81, of Emory, passed away Friday, October 13, 2017, at ETMC in Quitman. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 1:00 PM, at Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Emory. Rev. Willie Byrd and Bro. Elgie Clayton will officiate. Interment will follow in Prairie Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 20175-7 PM, at the Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory.

Mertis was born on September 17, 1936, in Emory, to Lonnie and Mattie Robinson.  She graduated from St. Paul High School in Neylandville, Texas. She was baptized and was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church. She married R.V. “Dap” Clayton, and to this union was born two wonderful sons. She was a retired mail carrier out of the Emory Post Office.

Survivors include: Loving and devoted husband: R.V. “Dap” Clayton of Emory
Youngest son: Connie Clayton of Emory
God-son: Lauston Garrett of Emory
God-granddaughter: Ava of Atlanta, GA
2 Sisters: Doris Anderson and Willene Mornes both of Emory
A host of nieces, grandnieces, nephews, and grandnephews
Numerous other loving family and friends

Those awaiting her in Glory:  Parents, her eldest son: Ronnie Clayton in 2013; Sisters: Joyce Young, Norma Cunigan; and Brothers: Obie D. Robinson, Robert Davis, Jr., Lowell Robinson, Lonnie T. Robinson, Jr., Bruce Robinson and Larry Robinson
