Brookshire Grocery Co. Celebrates Super 1 Foods 40th Anniversary
TYLER, Texas, April 30, 2024 – Brookshire Grocery Co. (BGC) will celebrate the 40th anniversary of its Super 1 Foods banner on May 1.
From its inception in the early 80s, Super 1 Foods has provided a different shopping experience for customers, focused on low pricing with incredible service.
Super 1 Foods offers full-scale supermarkets, providing excellent high-quality fresh meats and produce, everyday low prices, and helpful staff, making it a pleasant shopping experience for customers. The Super 1 Foods banner is able to offer high-end products for less because the company buys by the truckload directly from distributors and passes the savings on to customers.

The first Super 1 Foods store opened in Alexandria, La., on May 1, 1984. Throughout the 80s the banner expanded into new markets including West Monroe and Bastrop, La. BGC celebrated the first new construction for Super 1 Foods, in Tyler, in December 1988. By the end of the decade, Super 1 Foods had expanded to more than eight stores, including Longview, Texas, and Shreveport, La., market areas.
The banner continued to experience substantial growth in Texas and Louisiana throughout the 90s. Many locations were also updated to include bakeries and fuel stations. By the decade’s end, 30 Super 1 Foods were operating in Texas and Louisiana.
In 2004, Super 1 Foods expanded into Arkansas. Over the next few years, the Super 1 Foods banner experienced steady growth and improvement throughout the market area. In 2022, BGC celebrated a brand-new store with the construction of its new generation Super 1 Foods store in Jacksonville, Texas.
Over the years, the Super 1 Foods banner has remained strong. The 49th Super 1 Foods store will be celebrated with a grand opening on May 8 in Lafayette, La. This new location will add approximately 150 jobs to the Lafayette community and will feature curbside service, Instacart services, a bakery, deli specializing in hand-crafted sushi, and meat departments.
BGC continues to build new stores, update existing locations and expand into new markets, serving as a testament to the company’s plans for future growth and development.
