Solar Eclipse in Sulphur Springs: Recap

Solar Eclipse in Sulphur Springs: Recap
  • PublishedApril 9, 2024

What an UNFORGETTABLE experience! This weekend was packed with tons of excitement. The total solar eclipse of 2024 brought in crowds from all around the world!

As usual, the Chad’s Media and FPN team had cameras ready. Here’s a glimpse of the breathtaking moments we shared together under the celestial show.

According to Astronomy.com, Sulphur Springs was the number 8 BEST place to view the solar eclipse in the entire world. We knew this event would be special but our location had some unique qualities. Eclipse enthusiasts conversed with locals about the solar flares being able to be seen around the rim of the eclipse. During totality, it was said that Jupiter was visible. Did you catch it?

Of course, our city and Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce were as prepared as possible for this event. In an interview with KLTV, the president and CEO of the chamber, Butch Burney, mentioned planning had been in the works for at least a year.

Our local businesses and institutions met regularly to ensure safety measures were in place. The Chamber even created a website to alert locals and visitors of important information.

Many watch parties were hosted around town bringing a range of solar eclipse viewing experiences for every taste. Those included:

What our team found is that most of the crowd joined the big party on Celebration Plaza. Groups were also spotted gathering at Coleman Lake, parks around town, and many other areas that provided space to kick back and watch the show. If you drove around town, you would have seen several places to buy Solar Eclipse merchandise from a variety of businesses.

Events leading up to the big day included a concert, a three-day market, a community theater show, and much more.

It’s safe to say, our town was ready for the big event! Once totality hit, crowds cheered, thousands of pictures were taken and shared, and we all went home with lasting amazement.

Thank you to everyone who came out and viewed the eclipse in Sulphur Springs with us. We were so honored to welcome you here and we hope you enjoyed your stay!
