If you find yourself on the long drive from Dallas to Lake Cypress or Arkansas, it’s easy to get a bit restless. The usual chain restaurants, gas stations, and of course Buckeys – can get old. So where should you make a pit stop on your way out of Texas?

Whether you need to stretch your legs, eat something besides a burger and fries or pick up some road trip gifts or outfits, Sulphur Springs makes the perfect detour off I-30. Just an hour and a half outside of Dallas, Sulphur Springs is a great halfway point between Dallas and Oklahoma or Arkansas destinations. Don’t let the typical chains on the I-30 service road get all of your attention, venture downtown for a truly hidden gem of a town.

The glass bathrooms in downtown Sulphur Springs are always a memorable experience for kids and adults alike. Downtown Sulphur Springs boasts a wide variety of restaurants and food trucks for even the pickiest of eaters. Finish off the experience with coffee and home made ice cream from the famous Magic Scoop. Strolling around downtown is a great way to stretch your legs and satisfy any shopaholic. Dozens of boutiques carrying women’s, children’s and men’s clothing are available right off the town square. Shops like Beauty & Grace, Market on Main and Sabo Provisions  offer some of the most unique clothing, gifts, antiques, cigars, decor and jewelry you can find outside of Austin, Texas. 

If you’re lucky, you’ll come through town during one of many festivals or markets that Sulphur Springs holds every year. From concerts,Christmas Markets, Cinco De Mayo festivals and the weekly farmer’s market, you’re bound to find something fun going on and meet friendly faces. And if you are a history buff, the Heritage Park is a must for all of it’s historical buildings, museum and information.
