Sulphur Springs Wildcats Back In Action After Bye Week

Sulphur Springs Wildcats Back In Action After Bye Week
  • PublishedOctober 4, 2023

The halfway point of the Texas High School Football season has come and gone. Last week, Coach Faircloth and the Sulphur Springs Wildcats got some much needed rest in their bye week, but this week they are back in action and ready to begin district play, hopefully with a bang.

The Wildcats enter district play on a hot streak, winning each of their last three games. Now with a week of rest and preparation, they will look to extend their winning streak to four games and open district play with a win.

Sulphur Springs opened their season with a road win against Jacksonville, winning the game by a final score of 29-16. In Week 2 they would take their first, and only, loss of the season so far, falling to Mount Pleasant on the road 35-22.

Since their Week 2 it’s been all Wildcats, winning each of their last three games, two of which were in front of their home crowd. In that time span, the Wildcats have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 118-83.

Sulphur Springs will open district play with a familiar foe in Community. Last season the Wildcats took their district opener against Community in a 30-point blowout.

Quarterback Brady Driver had a huge day rushing in the win, picking up over 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also threw for three touchdowns, leading the Wildcats to a big win in their district opener.

Over the last few weeks the Wildcats have been great on both sides of the ball, getting contributions from a number of players. Offensively, Brady Driver has averaged 274 yards per game with a combined 13 touchdowns during their three-game winning streak.

He’s also seen big contributions from receivers Skylar Lewis and Wyatt Watson in the passing game. During that same span the two have combined for 454 yards and seven touchdowns on 26 catches.

The Wildcats were also helped out by their run game in their most recent win against Liberty-Eylau, when running backs Dedrick Rose-Luke and Cameron Jefferson for 268 yards rushing. Jefferson will look to keep his momentum going into Community this week.

Sulphur Springs enters district play with the exact same record as they did a season ago, sitting at 4-1. Last year they finished the year 7-3 and made their first playoff appearance since 2018. Coach Faircloth and company will be looking to have even more success in Year Two.

Friday’s match for Sulphur Springs at Community begins at 7:30 p.m. Our live broadcast begins at 7 p.m. on Front Porch News and Chad’s Media.
