Como-Pickton Eagles Pick Up 1st Win Of The Season In Homecoming Victory
Saturday was a huge day for the Como-Pickton Eagles, as they looked to pick up their first win of the season against Detroit. As if the game needed even more meaning, it was also Homecoming for the Eagles, as they looked to send their crowd and students home with a victory.
Como-Pickton wasted no time finding offense, scoring 21 points in the opening frame. Their defense also started strong, allowing just eight points and quickly building a multiple-score lead.
The Eagles continued their strong play in the second quarter, shutting out Detroit to keep them at just eight points in the opening half. The Eagles offense, on the other hand, turned things up a notch, scoring 23 points and pushing the lead to 44-8 at halftime.
The second half was a much lower scoring affair, as Como-Pickton’s defense continued to shut Detroit out for the remainder of the game. The Eagles offense would go on to add another 14 points in the third quarter, winning the game by a final score of 58-8.
The Eagles had a number of huge contributions offensively, but the standout was freshman Quincy Goodwin. Goodwin had a jaw-dropping 201 yards on just six carries, averaging 33.5 yards per attempt. The freshman also had four touchdowns, scoring on 66% of his touches.
Junior Julian Rodriguez also had an incredible game, finishing just shy of the 100-yard mark. Rodriguez had the biggest workload with nine carries and used them efficiently, rushing for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Diego Martinez and Alex Estrada also got some work, combining for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 4 attempts between the two of them.
Como-Pickton was perhaps just as impressive defensively as they were offensively, forcing five turnovers in the 50-point win. The Eagles were able to force three fumbles and also a pair of interceptions, as well as one defensive touchdown from Martinez.
The 50-point blowout was an incredible way to pick up their first win of the season and to pick up their first win under new head coach Jeremy Phillips.
