Jann Huckaby Lawrence Burton passed away at her home on June 19, 2023, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Big Spring, Texas on January 5, 1940. She was 83 years old.

 

Jann met Paul Lawrence in Abilene, TX where Jann grew up and Paul was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. They married September 12, 1958, and relocated to Hopkins County where they owned and operated a dairy farm for many years. Jann stayed busy raising their four children but was also employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone, Hopkins County Clerk’s Office and the Como-Pickton ISD.

 

After the death of Paul in 2013, Jann moved to Lindale, TX where she attended the United Methodist Church. There she became close friends with and later married Bruce Burton in 2016. They enjoyed 5 wonderful years together before Bruce passed away in 2021.

 

Jann was also preceded in death by her adopted father, D.M. Smith; birth father, Sam Huckaby; sister, Beverly Huckaby; mother, Faye Smith; first husband, Paul Lawrence; grandson, Jason Lawrence, and great grandson, Jax Kirby.

 

She is survived by her sons, Paul Lawrence, Jr. and wife Jane of Kingsport, TN; David Lawrence and wife, Jan of Muleshoe, TX; Steve Lawrence and partner, Connie Sullivan of Sulphur Springs; daughter, Cynthia Sample and husband Joel of Katy, TX. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Smith and wife Frances Verhalen of Marshall, TX; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

 

Services will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, at Como United Methodist Church. Family visitation begins at 10:00AM with Rev. Beverly Olsen presiding. Burial will follow immediately at the Como Cemetery with Michael Lawrence, Dr. Daniel Lawrence, Garret Sample, Michael “Bud” Billups, Cody Kirby, Cole Roan, David Caldwell, Justin Stuenkel, and Eric Wall serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Freddy Rowell and Nancy Rowell. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be sent to the Como United Methodist Church. Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home is managing the arrangements.
