Como-Pickton Lady Eagles Ready To Begin Playoff Run
Over the last few years the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles have become one of the staples of 2A Texas High School softball. This year was no different, as the No. 2 ranked Lady Eagles enter the postseason in possibly the best position they’ve been yet.
The Lady Eagles had an incredible regular season, going 29-2 and undefeated in district play. Now with the impressive regular season behind them, it’s time to see if they can keep the momentum rolling into postseason play.
Como-Pickton begins postseason play Wednesday, with the first two games of a best-of-three set against Simms Bowie. Wednesday’s double-header will be held at Paris Chisum, with Game One set to begin at 6 p.m. and Game Two to follow.
This will be the second time the two teams face off against one another, as the Lady Eagles defeated Simms Bowie in a 9-0 shutout back Feb. 28. Ace Mattison Buster was in rare form, throwing the full seven innings and allowing just one hit and two walks, while striking out 15 batters.
Offensively Como-Pickton was firing on all cylinders, as Bella Romero, Addi Monk, Saylor Smith, Sarah Corley and Maggie Brown each had multi-hit games. Smith not only had a multi-hit game, but did so by hitting a home run and a triple.
The Lady Eagles will look to replicate the same success they had the first go-round, as well as the same success they’ve had all season. Como-Pickton enters the postseason on an 18-game winning streak.
An 18-game winning streak is impressive enough, but the Lady Eagles have been especially dominant over that time. During that streak they have outscored their opponents by a score of 187-3, averaging over 10 runs a game.
