Hopkins County, Texas is home to a variety of exciting festivals and events throughout the year. There are over 300 events hosted per year in Sulphur Springs, so there is always something fun and exciting happening in this charming Texas town. Here are just a few of the most important.

Hopkins County Dairy Festival

The Hopkins County Dairy Festival has been celebrated in Sulphur Springs, Texas every June since 1958. This week-long event celebrates the dairy industry that has long been a vital part of the local economy. The celebration features a variety of events, including a parade, a pageant, a dairy cattle show, and even a milking contest. There are also carnival rides, live music, and plenty of delicious dairy treats to sample. The festival is a fun and festive celebration of the town’s heritage, and not to be missed. It culminates with a hot air balloon jamboree that is unforgettable! 

Hopkins County Fall Festival

The Hopkins County Fall Festival has been held every October in Sulphur Springs since 1969, although its roots are much older. This festival celebrates the changing of the seasons and the arrival of fall with a variety of family-friendly activities. There are carnival rides, arts and crafts booths, live music, and plenty of delicious food to enjoy. The festival also includes a parade that’s a celebration of local agriculture,  making it a great event for visitors of all ages.

Hopkins County Stew Cookoff

The Hopkins County Stew Cookoff is an annual event held in downtown Sulphur Springs every October. This popular festival features a variety of teams competing to make the best stew in the area. Visitors can sample all of the stews and vote for their favorites, making it a fun and interactive event. In addition to the stew cookoff, the festival also includes live music, arts and crafts vendors, and plenty of delicious food to enjoy. Almost 8,000 people attend every year! 

Independence Day Celebration (aka “Reds, Whites and Booms”) 

The Independence Day Celebration is held every July in Sulphur Springs and is a fun-filled event for the whole family. The day includes live music from the symphony orchestra, as well as local vendors, lawn games, and a fireworks display at night. The festival is a great way to celebrate the Fourth of July with family and friends and enjoy the summer weather.

Celebration Market

The Celebration Market is held spring through fall in downtown Sulphur Springs and is a great way to support local businesses and artisans. The market features a variety of vendors selling everything from homemade crafts and baked goods to fresh produce and locally-raised meat. There are also food trucks, live music, and activities for kids, and since it’s every week, there are plenty of chances to attend! 

Christmas at Heritage Park

Christmas at Heritage Park is a beloved holiday tradition in Sulphur Springs, held every December at Heritage Park and Museum. The park is transformed into a winter wonderland, with thousands of twinkling lights, festive displays, and holiday decorations. Visitors can enjoy old-time demonstrations like blacksmithing and a klezmer band. The festival is a great way to get into the holiday spirit and enjoy the magic of Christmas with family and friends.

Downtown Business Alliance Vintage Car Show

The Vintage Car Show is an annual classic car show held every September in Sulphur Springs. The event features a variety of classic cars on display, as well as live music, food vendors, and activities for kids. It’s a fun and festive event for car enthusiasts and families alike, and a great way to enjoy the early fall weather in Hopkins County.
