Wildcats soccer grabs big road win

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats soccer team hit the road Tuesday, for a big match against Texas High. Needing a win to keep them in the battle for a playoff spot, Sulphur Springs was looking to complete the series sweep over Texas High, after beating them 6-0 in the first go round.

Alex Yanez got the scoring started for the Wildcats, scoring on a penalty kick. Bryan Gonzalez joined in on the scoring as well, scoring on an assist from Edgar Salazar. 

Later in the game Salazar scored a goal of his now, putting the game away with a penalty kick to make the final score 3-2.

“Great win to put is still in the fight for third,” coach Alexi Upton said. “Prim on Friday for teacher appreciation night! See you at the Prim!”

The win pushes the Wildcats record to 4-5 in district play. They are currently in fourth place in the district and trail third place Pine Tree by half a game. 

Friday’s match will give them a chance to cover some ground, as they host Marshall. In their first match against Marshall this season, the Wildcats walked away with a 3-2 road victory.
