Winter Bash Livestock Show has great inaugural run

The inaugural Northeast Texas Winter Bash Livestock Show welcomed local youth to show heifers, steer, lamb, swine and goats at the Hopkins County Regional Civic center this past weekend. With 160 entries, organizers considered it a success. Results are as follows: 

Grand Champions

  • Grand Champion Steer- Mika Gray (Miller Grove)
  • Grand Champion Heifer- Abbie Melton (Miller Grove)
  • Reserve Grand- Olivia Cooley (DeQueen, Arkansas)
  • Grand Champion Goat- Juliet Salazar (Wylie East)
  • Grand Champion Swine- Danielle Garrett (Miller Grove)
  • Reserve Grand Swine- Adysen Porter (Rains)
  • Grand Champion Lamb- Evan Sylvester (Sulphur Springs) 

Steer & Heifer

  • American Steer- Case Fails (Sulphur Springs)
  • Exotic Steer- Mika Gray (Miller Grove)
  • British Steer- Isaac Stanley (Sulphur Springs)
  • American Heifer- Taylor Drinkwine (Quitman) 
  • Exotic Heifer- Abbie Melton (Miller Grove)
  • British Heifer- Olivia Cooley (DeQueen, Arkansas)

Breed Champions

  • Simmental- Abbie Melton (Miller Grove)
  • ORB- Caroline Melton (Miller Grove)
  • Braunvieh- Katie Alexander (Miller Grove) 
  • Brahman- Blaine Allen (Sulphur Springs) 

Todd Daniel provided smoked pork and brisket, and Linda Fails and Laura Teer provided baked goods. 

“It was great and we will be doing it yearly [the] first weekend of December,” organizer Cody Fails noted.
