Buster earns 1000th career strikeout

Buster earns 1000th career strikeout

Over the last few seasons the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles softball program has been the definition of consistent. Each year they have found themselves as one of the top ranked teams in the state and going on to have postseason success.

While a number of factors have gone into their success, a big part of that has been team leader Mattison Buster. Buster, who will be continuing her softball career at Louisiana Tech, has been nothing short of incredible, both as a pitcher and a hitter.

Tuesday night against Rivercrest Buster reached a feat that even the best of pitchers never dream of reaching, by striking out the 1000th batter of her career. A feat that takes both great talent and consistency, putting her name in Como-Pickton record books forever.

The Lady Eagles ace has had a spectacular season so far, amassing a record of 23-1 going into Tuesday night’s game. Just as impressive, she has already tallied 252 strikeouts on the season as well.

Buster entered the night needing just five more strikeouts to reach the 1000 strikeout milestone. Buster didn’t need much time to do so, striking out her fifth batter in the third inning.

While she’s been great all season, perhaps her best work has come during district play. In back-to-back starts against Detroit and Alba-Golden Buster tallied 37 strikeouts over the course of two starts, including a one-hit performance in the Detroit start.

Entering Tuesday’s game, Buster is on a six-game streak of striking out 10 or more batters. In that time she has had games with 19, 18, 11, 14, 11 and 13 strikeouts respectively.

Outside of her great work on the field, Buster is also equally impressive off the field. She was recently named the Alliance Bank Student of the Month for her work both in the classroom and in the community.

Buster and the Lady Eagles will look to continue their impressive run into the postseason,  as they are currently ranked as the No. 2 team in the state in 2A. Stay tuned to Front Porch News for continued coverage of the Lady Eagles season.
