The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hosted the North Hopkins Lady Panthers Wednesday, looking to pick up their 16 win of the season. The Lady Eagles were looking to get back into the win column after a 41-36 loss to Quinlan Boles in their most recent outing.

The Lady Eagles set the tone from the very beginning, playing lockdown defense against the Lady Panthers. Como-Pickton had their lowest scoring quarter of the night in the first, but their strong defensive play was good enough to give them a 9-5 lead after the first eight minutes of action.

North Hopkins picked things up in the second quarter, giving the Lady Eagles a tougher fight than they did in the first frame. Even with the Lady Panthers picking their scoring up, Como-Pickton was still able to add to their lead, going into the locker room up 19-14.

With the game being closer than they would like, the Lady Eagles took their game to another level to open the second half. Como-Pickton put up 13 points in the third quarter, while holding North Hopkins to just four points in the frame.

With a double-digit lead entering the final few minutes, Como-Pickton still never took their foot off the gas, putting up their highest scoring frame of the night. North Hopkins answered back with a big quarter of their own, but the Lady Eagles had done more than enough, wining the game by a final score of 46-31.

Como-Pickton distributed their scoring pretty evenly, as they had three different players finish in double-digits. Mattison Buster led the way with 14 points, while Kara Tifft had 12 points and Addi Monk had 10 points.

Buster and Tifft each had a game-high five rebounds, while Tifft also had a pair of steals as well. Monk led the way in both steals (5) and assists (3), while also grabbing a pair of boards.

Chelsey Osborne added three points and four rebounds, while Bella Romero and Annie Franklin each had two points. Rhayne Thomas scored as well, finishing with one point and one rebound.

The win makes Como-Pickton 16-8 this year and gives them a district record of 2-1. They will be home again Friday, as they are set to take on the 21-9 Cooper Lady Bulldogs. Tipoff is set to begin at 7 p.m. and coverage of the game will be provided on Front Porch News.
