1 Samuel 22:1
David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.
Unforgiveness is one of the most common hinderances to receiving God’s promises in your life. David, while fleeing Saul, was held up in cave with some of his followers. During this already trying time, his father and brothers came seeking David’s protection. David had a choice to make. If you’ll read back in the previous chapters, David’s father and brothers viewed him as an afterthought and unworthy of the position that Samuel had anointed Him for. They had belittled and degraded him many times. Now, they’re knocking at his door, asking for help. The natural, human response would be, “Seriously, you’re expecting something out me? After the way you treated me. I don’t think so.” As seemingly justified as this response would have been, David chose the higher path, showing that he was becoming the kind of leader that God was looking for. Does it feel like there’s something keeping you from fully experiencing God’s promise for your life? Is there someone, maybe several someones, who you need to release through forgiveness. By allowing the love of God to enable you to release those hurts and offenses you will find that you’ll hear the Holy Spirit’s voice more quickly and accurately. Step into greater freedom and unity with those around you by being quick to forgive and therefore quick to receive the promises of God. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
