Obituary for Timothy Wayne Stevens

Obituary for Timothy Wayne Stevens
  • PublishedSeptember 17, 2026

Timothy Wayne Stevens, age 69, passed away in Tyler, TX on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after a brief stay in the hospital, surrounded by his wife and daughter. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward R. Stevens and his mother, Rosemary R. Stevens, both of Bloomville, Ohio.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 49 years, 1 week and 6 days, Sherry J. Stevens of Yantis, Texas; his favorite (and only) daughter, Kathy J. Beirnes of McKinney, Texas and his precious granddaughter, Avery K. Beirnes, also of McKinney, Texas.

Also survived by brother Eddie Stevens, sisters Sue Nickler, Jane DeJean (John), Teresa Cooney (Mike) and Sally Schiffer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Ohio – all of whom he loved.

He would haunt us forever if we didn’t mention that he is also survived by Beth Dutton and Willa Hayes – his 2 very large and much-loved Old English Bulldogs.

Tim spent his youth in Ohio but left for Texas at the age of 19 for work. He met Sherry in Houston, Texas in 1977 and they married shortly after. Tim made a life in the Rockwall area in the late 70’s through the mid 90’s while working as a longtime employee of Quebecor Printing. In 1995, they moved to Lake Fork for fishing, of course. He then worked for Nestle Waters at Hawkins, and then for Krones, Inc., for 17 years, when he retired in September of 2025.

Tim was an avid fisherman. The only thing he loved more than fishing was Sherry. He loved to hunt – anything – and he was good at it! Tim was a friend you could count on. He was a mentor to many. He was a brilliant-minded creator who could build or repair just about anything. He was a modern-day mechanical engineer – all self-taught. He was right at home on his 25-acre ranch in Yantis, Texas with his few cows, chickens, his dogs and his wife.

Although his retirement was cut short, we can say it was a life well live and lived on Tim’s terms. The fish in East Texas can rest a little easier now, but the rest of us will all have a hole in our lives, once filled by someone amazing.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
