Como-Pickton Eagles, Cumby Trojans Each Favorites In Their Season Opener
The Texas High School Football season is finally here. After the Sulphur Springs Wildcats opened their season last night, Como-Pickton and Cumby will officially begin their new season’s tonight, each hoping to open their season on a strong note. Both team’s are coming off playoff season’s in 2025, and each will be looking to make it back to the postseason in 2026.
Como-Pickton Eagles
The Como-Pickton Eagles are eager to begin their 2026 season, after a huge bounce back year in 2025. Last season the Eagles were able to end their playoff drought and win six games, including wins in each of their final two district games. The late season surge helped them earn fourth place in district and punch their ticket to the postseason, something they had not done previously since 2020.
The Eagles will be traveling to Quitman for their season opener, hoping to pick up exactly where they left off. Como-Pickton is looking to end a streak of four consecutive year’s in which they’ve lost the season opener, with their most recent opening night win coming back in 2021 when they took down Bowie on the road.
Como-Pickton is not only hoping to start this season off with a bang, but, in fact is expected to, as they are a five-point favorite in the road matchup, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. Cumby Trojans
Much like the Como-Pickton Eagles, the Cumby Trojans are also hoping to carry the momentum of a big playoff season in 2025 into this fall. Last season, the Trojans were also a six-win team and made their second consecutive trip to the postseason.
Cumby has seen their win total improve in each of the last four season’s, and would love to see that trend continue another year, though they will need seven or more wins to do so, and getting a win in the season opener could go a long way in doing exactly that.
Just like the Eagles, the Trojans open their season on the road, as they travel to Big Sandy. Also like the Eagles, the Trojans are the favorite in their matchup, as Dave Campbell’s has Cumby as an 11-point favorite in their road opener.
Being a double-digit favorite on the road is no easy feat, but all eyes will be on the Trojans to pick up the win in their season opener, as they look to put together a third consecutive playoff season, and hope to do so with a win in Week 1.
