DCTF Magazine Predicts Wildcats To Take District 7-4A

As we continue with our summer series, preparing and getting ourselves excited for Sulphur Springs Wildcats football, we have more exciting news to review. After learning last week that the Wildcats will be ranked No. 8 to start the 2026 season, this week we get to see how Dave Cambpell’s see’s District 7-4A playing out. 

Given the Wildcats are ranked No. 8 in the preseason poll, you may have assumed they would also be predicted to be the district champs of District 7-4A, and you would be correct. While the Wildcats have had a ton of success over the last few season’s, and have even held up multiple trophies, their first district championship is one they’re still seeking. Now, in the first year in a new district, with new district opponents, that wait may soon be coming to an end. 

The magazine predicts Sulphur Springs to win their first district title in the Faircloth Era, with a familiar foe (the Paris Wildcats) finishing right behind them in second place. They also have Kaufman and Caddo Mills joining them in the playoffs, with Ferris, Mabank and Waxahachie Life missing out in this first go-round.

The predictions didn’t stop there, however, as the magazine also gives their prediction for Preseason Offensive MVP and Preseason Defensive MVP. While the Preseason Defensive MVP went to Cole Martin, linebacker from Kaufman, it should come as no surprise at all that the Preseason Offensive MVP went to Wildcats quarterback Deuce Timmons. 

Timmons comes into his senior season, ready to help carry the Wildcats to their first district title in the Faircloth Era, after racking up over 1,300 yards and 21 touchdowns in just five games last season. The Wildcats QB1 enters his senior season, already with over 2,150 total yards and 43 touchdowns in his career and looking to finish his Wildcats career with his best and most electric season yet. 

The magazine also made mention of wide receiver Jaxon Virgel, who had a stellar debut campaign in 2025. The 6’4, 200-pound wide out was already one of the leaders in the passing game for the Wildcats as just a sophomore, catching 29 passes for 531 yards and eight touchdowns, garnering the attention of many scouts along the way. 

Virgel enters his junior season, not only looking to take a huge step and become the leading pass catcher for the Wildcats, but already with multiple D1 offers under his belt. So far Oregon State, Texas State, UTEP, Lamar and Texas Southern have already offered scholarships to Virgel, with many others sure to join that conversation. 

Dave Campbell’s also listed Dobson Martin, Quinn Harris, Deacon Carpenter and Daydrion Berry as players to watch on the offense, along with James Johnson, Jackson Medlock and Zane Pryor on the defensive side of things. 

The Wildcats enter the 2026 season, seeking their third consecutive double-digit win season, and the experts at Dave Campbell’s believe they’re capable of doing so. Not only do they predict them to be district champions, but they also mentioned them in a much bigger discussion. 

When talking about who could potentially win Region 2, the Wildcats name once again came up. “The fly in the ointment here could be Sulphur Springs,” the DCTF said. “Whose quarterback Deuce Timmons is worth the price of admission.”
