If you’ve ever wanted to experience genuine small-town Texas at it’s best, this is your week. The Festival is one of the Northeast Texas’s most beloved annual traditions, and it’s still going strong with several events left on the 2026 calendar. The Hopkins County Dairy Festival has been a community institution since 1959, and it exists for a good reason: Hopkins County is dairy country. A great claim to fame for Hopkins County is that they were once the dairy capital of the world. The dairy festival is just one example of that heritage brought to life. The local dairy industry dates back to the 1930s and remains the number one agricultural enterprise in the community to this day. This isn’t a manufactured event dreamed up by a tourism board, it’s a genuine celebration of who this county is and where it came from. For locals, it’s a homecoming. For visitors, it’s a rare window into authentic East Texas heritage.
There are still plenty of activities to love and enjoy this weekend and next. First, you can head to the Civic Center for a full day of festival tradition. The Jr. Daily Show kicks off Friday at 9:00 AM in the Civic Center Arena and concludes Saturday, where you’ll see the next generation of Hopkins County’s dairy community show off their animals and agricultural know-how. That evening at 6:00 PM, the Pageant takes the stage in the Civic Center Auditorium, a long-standing tradition where the festival’s queen is crowed in front of family, friends, and community. The last exciting event for the Dairy Festival is fun for the whole family, the Carnival. For three nights, June 18-20, experience carnival fun on the Civic Center Grounds and High School Parking lot. This is the perfect way to end the week, especially if you’re bringing kids or just want that classic county fair feeling under the East Texas sky. Games, rides and carnival food that you won’t want to miss that is available each night.
If you’re coming from out of town, let’s be real: Sulphur Springs is a genuine, unhurried small town with a beautiful historic downtown, friendly locals and the kind of community events that most places have long since stopped doing. The Dairy Festival isn’t a spectacle, it’s the real thing. You’ll leave feeling like you were actually somewhere, not just passing through.
