Choices and Consequences

If you watch much regular television, it almost seems like constant commercials with a couple of minutes of entertainment thrown in.  It’s a free country.  Sponsors pay for it.  The whole idea of it is to make you dissatisfied with present situations and get you to make a change.  They’ve spent a lot of time and money to try and make you feel incomplete, unhappy, and  dissatisfied with something in your life.  They want you to believe that making a change in your life could make all the difference in your life.  Ironically, they’re correct but not in the way we had in mind.

Contentment and peace of mind are getting harder to find every day.  Occasionally we’ll meet somebody who demonstrates that quality in their life.  They can almost seem odd.  I frequently remind us that there are only two main forces affecting our daily lives here on earth.  If it ain’t being influenced by one of them, then it’s coming from the other.  One force wants us to establish a strong personal relationship with a higher power that can be called on to successfully navigate this treacherous journey we call life.  It’s not designed to help us avoid all the challenges we will face.  It is designed to help us meet them and come out stronger and wiser.  The Bible says the rain falls on the just and the unjust.  It’s not possible or practical for us to coast through life never growing, never knowing that our greatest growth and development of our sense of peace of mind and real happiness often comes from some of our greatest challenges.  Going through the valleys of life help us to appreciate the mountains we occasionally have to climb to become the person we were meant to be.

The problem with this old world is that it is constantly being disrupted by the other forces of evil that only want to see us defeated and unhappy.  They pretend the things they can offer us will give us that sense of joy and pleasure we may secretly, unknowingly be looking for.  Unfortunately, these end up being lies that end up making us more disillusioned and unhappier than before.

Our lives and how we live them pretty much come down to the choices we make.  The key is having the strongest, most beneficial power having our back as we fight those daily battles.  Most older people will tell you that stuff and things can’t make you happy.  Living the life meant for you can do it.  Unfortunately, so many of us try to navigate these muddy waters without a clear vision of where we’re going.  Our Father says we see through a glass darkly while His vision is clear.  We’re told to lean not unto our own understanding.  We’re told there is a way that seems right, but the end thereof is death.  That’s the goal of evil forces we face.  Hopefully we’ll wake up from our stupor in time to avoid crashing through that barricade and running off the cliff.
