David Hallmark was born on January 20, 1942, in Bonham, Texas, to Cecil and Ruby (Brake) Hallmark. He married Brenda (Gail) Hallmark in June of 1990. He worked in the Defense Department of Texas Instruments for over thirty years. In his free time, he loved to play guitar and had a special passion for well vintage Martin guitars, but most of all, he was a devout Christian man.
David lived a Godly life, marked by deep connections, a love for music, and a genuine appreciation for people. He had a rare gift for turning simple encounters into meaningful relationships, leaving behind a trail of friendships that often felt more like family. Whether near or far, he carried with him the spirit of God that reached communities and even around the world.
Music was at the heart of who Davied was. His guitars were more than instruments; they were companions to a lifelong passion that brought him joy and brought others together. Through music, conversation, and his natural ability to connect, he left a lasting impression wherever he went. David and his wife shared a deep love for music and adventure, often traveling to Nashville to buy and trade guitars. These trips became cherished traditions, filled with laughter, discovery, and countless fond memories they created together.
David embraced life with a sense of adventure and authenticity. He was known for his ability to find opportunities, strike up a conversation with anyone, and share stories that reflected a life well lived. There was never anything ordinary about David – he lived with curiosity, humor, and a willingness to engage fully with the world around him. He carried deep pride in his hometown and found great joy in supporting the Leonard Tigers, a reflection of his lasting love for community and its traditions. A devoted fan of high school football, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team and share in the spirit of the game.
Above all, David was deeply devoted to his family. He loved each member in a way that made them feel seen, valued, and important. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a particularly special place in his heart. When he arrived, their excitement said it all – running to him with joy, laughter, and the familiar call of “Papa”. In those moments, nothing else mattered, and his love for them was unmistakable.
David is survived by his wife, Brenda Hallmark of Sulphur Springs, Texas; sons, David Hallmark II and wife, Amanda, of Mabank, Texas, Darron Harred and wife Karen of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Derrek Harred and wife Sandra of Dike, Texas; daughter, Daphne Schwab of New York; stepchildren, Dywayne Prine, and Windy Tanksley; grandchildren, David Paul Hallmark III, Emma Kate Hallmark, Nora Jane Hallmark, Dillon Harred, Harlie Harred, Brennan Harred, Colt Nichols, Cody Austin, Candice Austin, Madelyn Harred and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry Hallmark, Billy Hallmark, and Tom Hallmark; his sister, Brenda Radke, and numerous nieces and nephews.
