Interested in Playing Mingo? Find Out What It Is and What It Includes

Sulphur Springs, TX – If you are new to the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation’s Mingo, slated for Thursday, April 9, you probably wonder what it is all about. Here are all the details, including a little bingo lingo.

Mingo is a wonderful night of bingo, licensed through Texas Charitable Bingo, a division of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The Foundation calls it Mingo because the money raised will fund a men’s health initiative for Hopkins County men. The name also sets it apart from the Foundation’s very popular Designer Handbag Bingo.

The Foundation uses official, licensed bingo cards called “3 on vertical and 10 up.” The “3 on vertical” means there are three faces (a face is a 25-space playing grid) on each card (so three chances to win for each game) that are printed vertically. “10 up” means there are 10 cards in the set. This allows players to participate in all 10 regular bingo rounds.

Each ticketed Mingo player will receive a packet of items which includes a card for each of the 10 regular rounds of bingo play, 1 ticket for a drink of choice (soda, wine, beer, or an Old Fashioned), 1 entry for the door prize, a yet to be determined light dinner, unlimited water, and tons of fun. A loaner dauber is provided at each place setting for players to borrow for the night.

A regular round of bingo play generally has 2 or 3 prizes funded by sponsors. The first person to win a particular round gets to choose a prize from among those offered for that round. If there are 2 prizes in a particular round, the second winner would get the remaining prize.

A printed program for the night is preset at each player’s place setting. Not only does the program include the Foundation’s house rules, but it also shows the prizes and sponsors for each round of play.

At the end of the night, 2 bonus rounds are played. Players can purchase individual “3 on horizontal” cards for $10 each for either of the 2 rounds. This means a player gets a single card with three faces for $10. For those wanting to play both bonus rounds, a card for each round must be purchased.

Doors open for the night at 5 pm, and play begins at 6 pm. This hour provides time for players to check in, complete and turn in their door prize entry, get their food and drink, and settle in before the games begin.

All tables seat 8 players. Those interested in a reserved table may sponsor at the $2,500 or $1,500 level or reserve a table for 8, without sponsoring a prize) for $575.

For more information or to make your reservation, visit Mingo2026.GiveSmart.com. Call or email the Foundation office at 903-438-4799 or hchc.foundation@christushealth.org. The Foundation is an IRS 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
