New Hopkins County District Realignments
Monday morning the UIL announced the new district realignments for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years. We’ve already look at what Sulphur Springs’ district will look like (click here to see that) and now we will be looking at the remainder of the Hopkins County schools!
2A Football
Como-Pickton will be joining District 10-2A for football, after having their most successful season in quite some time. They will be looking to keep their strong play going, now against a number of new faces. Joining them will be Alba-Golden, Cayuga, Frankston, Hawkins, Kerenes and Price Carlisle.
The Eagles went 6-4 in the regular season this year and made their first playoff appearance in a few years. Alba-Golden is the only school who they played last season, and they were able to pick up a 48-30 win against them.
Como-Pickton’s new district foes had a combined record of 35-31 last season, with Frankston carrying a lot of the load, going 11-1. Price Carlisle also had a huge year, going 7-6 and making it all the way to the third round. Over the last two season’s, the record looks even more impressive, with the teams combining to go 65-62, seeing six playoff trips and four trips to the second round or further.
Also getting a new football district will be the Cumby Trojans, who will be joining District 9-2A D2. Cumby will be joined in District 9-2A D2 by Celeste, Collinsville, Era, Lindsay and Quinlan Boles. Cumby, much like Como-Pickton, is coming off one of their best seasons in years, going 6-5 and making it to the playoffs.
Cumby’s new district opponents finished the season with a combined record of 32-24 last year, with Collinsville and Lindsay each winning 10 or more games and making it to the third round of the playoffs or further.
When looking at the last two season’s, the teams combined to go 62-51, with a total of five playoff appearances, four of which saw the teams go to the second round of further, with three total trips to the third round of further. Cumby, like Como-Pickton, will try to keep their winning ways going and become mainstays in the Texas High School Football playoffs.
2A Basketball
In basketball, the Hopkins County school’s find themselves spread out a bit, with North Hopkins, Como-Pickton and Cumby going 2A. North Hopkins will join Celeste, Cooper, Honey Grove, Ivanhoe Rayburn, Trenton and Wolfe City in District 14-2A. Meanwhile, Como-Pickton and Cumby get to be district rivals, along with Alba-Golden, Fate PTAA, Greenville PTAA, Merit Bland and Quinlan Boles in District 15-2A.
1A Basketball
Much like 2A, the three remaining 1A school’s find themselves split among two districts. Miller Grove will be the lone Hopkins County school in District 19-A, joined by Campbell, Dodd City, Ector, Fruitvale, Ladonia Fannidel and Savoy.
Meanwhile, Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff each go to District 20-A, being paired with Avery, Avinger, Bloomburg, Gilmer Union Hill and Yantis.
2A Volleyball
In volleyball things become even more spread out, with all three Hopkins County 2A schools being put in separate districts. Cumby goes to District 11-2A, along with Fate PTAA, Grenville PTAA, Quinlan Boles, Trenton and Wolfe City.
Waiting in their Bi-District, District 12-2A, is North Hopkins, who could potentially be a first round playoff matchup for them. North Hopkins is paired in District 12-2A with Bogata Rivercrest, Clarksville, Detroit and Harts Bluff ECHS.
Finally, in a completely different region, you have Como-Pickton who was put in District 18-2A. The Lady Eagles will be joined by Alba-Golden, Big Sandy, Gladewater Union Grove and Hawkins.
All three of the 2A Hopkins County volleyball teams are coming off of great seasons, with each of them not only making the playoffs but making it to at least the second round. They will each see if they can replicate that success in the seasons to come in their new districts.
1A Volleyball
The two remaining Hopkins County school’s with volleyball teams are Miller Grove and Sulphur Bluff, who were once again split up into two different districts.
Miller Grove will be accompanied by Dodd City, Ector, Ladonia Fannindel and Savoy in District 21-A, while Sulphur Bluff was paired with Avery, Fruitvale, Gilmer Union Hill and Yantis in District 22-A.
Miller Grove and Sulphur Bluff were each playoff teams in 2025 and will be looking to get back to postseason play in the years to come, with Sulphur Bluff coming off the heels of a very deep playoff run where they made it all the way to the fourth round.
