Anita K. Cason was born on December 18, 1937, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Oscar and Annie
(Pounds) Kerr. Mrs. Cason, age 88, passed away at Rock Creek Health and Rehab on December 24,
2025.
She married Nolan Cason on August 11, 1966, in Dallas, Texas. She worked for the Mobil Oil
Corporation as a secretary. After retirement from Mobil, she and Nolan moved to Sulphur Springs.
Nita worked for First American Bank before retiring again. She loved to volunteer at the Hopkins
County Memorial Hospital and with the Make-A-Wish program. She was part of the Pilot Club and
was a proud member of the First Baptist Church.
Nita is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Y’Barbo and her husband, Hank of Sulphur Springs, Texas;
son, Joe Dan Cason and wife, Shawn of North Carolina; grandchildren, Matthew Y’Barbo and wife,
Morgan, Mason Y’Barbo and fiancée, Michelle Osornio, Breanna Quinn and husband, Brandon,
Kaleb Cason, and wife, Ashton, and Haley Cason; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Alder, Lincoln, Wyatt,
Brayden and Presleigh.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Cason in 2010, and her parents, Oscar and Annie
Kerr.
Memorial service for Nita Cason will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the First Baptist Church
of Sulphur Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Nita’s name to the American
Diabetes Association at https://donors.diabetes.org/ or at P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
