Funeral service for Bessie A. Cockrum, age 87, of Sulphur Springs, TX, will be held at 2:00P.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. L.D. Baxley officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park with nine grandsons serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at 1:00 P.M., one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Cockrum passed away on September 28, 2025 at Christus Mother Frances – Sulphur Springs.

 

Bessie was born on September 28, 1938 in Hopkins County to S.C. and Hester (Baxley) Dickey. She married Billy Cockrum Sr. on April 15, 1961 in Mesquite, TX. Bessie was a homemaker and mother. She and Billy traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and the Panama Canal. Her joys in life included sewing, crocheting, reading, cooking and spending time with family.

 

She is survived by her husband, Billy; sons, Billy Wayne Cockrum Jr and wife, LeeAnn, Terry Cockrum and wife, Jenny, and Bryan Cockrum and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Amber Hooker and husband, Jesse, Joshua Cockrum and wife, Audrey, Jordan Cockrum and wife, Chelsea, Joseph Cockrum and wife, Asia, Justin Cockrum, Jessica Gonzalez and husband, Ryan, Talon Cockrum and wife, Lisa, Jacob Cockrum and wife, Charleigh, Canyon Cockrum and wife, Shelbi, Corey Cockrum and wife, Brandy and Dustin Cockrum; twenty-one great grandchildren; siblings, Tommy Dickey, Sam Dickey and wife, Becky, Peggy Miller and husband, James, and Patsy Riley and husband Richard.

 

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Allen and Bill; sisters, Carolyn Smith, Willa Ruth Dickey, and infant sister, Linda Dickey.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
