Memorial service for Rex Stovall, age 71 of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Mr. Stovall passed away at Sincerity Homestead in Greenville, Texas, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, after a courageous 20-year battle with Parkinson’s.

 

Rex Franklin Stovall as born on April 1, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, to Warren Range and Ethel Marie (Raney) Stovall. He married Jan Carol Wilson in Dallas, Texas, on August 17, 1974. Rex graduated from Bryan Adams High School and then obtained an associate’s degree from Eastfield College in Dallas. He joined the Dallas Fire Department in 1976 – a job and brotherhood he loved. After serving 31 years, he retired from Station 39 as a Lieutenant. He was an avid weightlifter and loved playing golf. For many years Rex coached youth soccer in Sulphur Springs and served as President of the Sulphur Springs Soccer Association. He worked part-time for Sears installing garage doors for 30 years.

 

Rex is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Jan Stovall of Sulphur Springs, Texas; son, Jeff Stovall and spouse Stephanie of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter, Holly Stovall of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren, Audrey Stovall, Allie Stovall, and Avery Stovall; sister, Sheila Stovall of Denver, Colorado; sister, Theresa and spouse Kenneth Williams of Georgetown, Texas; double first cousins, Warren Stovall of Tampa, Florida, Clyde Stovall of Atlanta, Georgia, Ruth Stovall and spouse Billie Phillips of McKinney, Texas; and numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Ethel Stovall; daughter, Melody Beth Stovall; and an aunt & uncle who were like parents to him, Jesse and Mary Stovall.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a memorial donation to the Parkinson’s Foundation, the Hopkins County Genealogical Society, or the Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
