Know Your Score: Get a Free Heart Calcium Scan from HC Foundation
  • PublishedJune 27, 2025

Sulphur Springs, Texas – The Hopkins County Health Care Foundation has free heart calcium scans available to Hopkins County men between the ages of 40 and 60 with one or more of the following risk factors: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, smoking, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease. Call (903) 606-4019 to schedule.

Low scores provide peace of mind while high scores are a saving grace, providing more time for treatment and lifesaving correction.

A score of 0 means no calcified plaque is detected and the risk of heart disease is very low. A score ranging from 11-100 is also a relatively safe range as narrowing of the arteries is minimal. A doctor may suggest a new diet or exercise routine as a preventative at this level.

From 101 to 300, the risk of heart attack increases. Scores may indicate the need for a follow-up for further testing or the prescription of medications such as daily aspirin, statins, or blood pressure medications.

Scores reaching 300 to 400 indicate higher levels of plaque and a higher risk of heart attack. This means vascular disease may already be present.

Every case is unique and dependent on the individual’s medical history, so consult a professional for a definitive treatment plan.

The good news is no matter the results, these scans give doctors the information needed to keep the heart healthy on a personalized plan.

This free offering was made possible by proceeds of the Foundation’s Man Bingo. Call (903) 606-4019 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to make an appointment.

The Foundation is an IRS designated 501 (c)(3) focused on expanding healthcare opportunities for Hopkins County. The Foundation provides public clinics and programs,

the newest of which is Summer of Healthy Fun. This program is designed to help people enjoy investing in their health through free offerings such as educational talks, workout classes, craft days, and more. Visit the website HCSummer25.GiveSmart.com to view all summer activities.
