Awards millions to local non-profit organizations making an impact in our communities

(EAST TEXAS) – CHRISTUS Health is proud to be recognized as one of the most socially

responsible health care systems in the country, according to a new report released this week.

CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System and CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Health

System are part of nine CHRISTUS health systems and facilities that received an A grade on the

2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility. The health systems achieved

this recognition through strong performance across metrics of health equity, patient outcomes

and value of care.

In the last fiscal year, CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances and CHRISTUS Good Shepherd spent

nearly $110 million in the East Texas region for charity care and community services.

Charity care is a CHRISTUS program dedicated to helping qualifying patients pay their accrued

medical bills.

“Our mission is more than just medicine, it is about impacting the communities we serve,” said

Chris Glenney, senior vice president of group operations for CHRISTUS Health Northeast

Texas. “We don’t just serve a region; we invest in it—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.”

As part of the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund, in the upcoming fiscal year, CHRISTUS

has identified 10 regional organizations to be awarded funds to help fulfill their mission:

Asbury House Child Enrichment Center in Longview

Buckner CFS Longview

Carevide in Sulphur Springs Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County

East Texas Food Bank

Longview Arboretum and Resource Center

Newgate Mission in Longview

PATH (People Attempting to Help) in Tyler

St. Vincent de Paul in Tyler

Women’s Center of East Texas

These organizations work to address critical social determinants of health in the community.

The CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund launched in 2011 and is a CHRISTUS Health

initiative supporting programs led by local organizations responding to the needs of the

community and improving its health and well-being. In the past fiscal year, CHRISTUS Health

has invested more than $454 million in all the communities it serves across Texas, Louisiana and

New Mexico.

“We believe healthcare is sacred work, where faith and service unite to uplift entire regions,”

Glenney said. “The money granted to these amazing organizations stay here to help people in

need and help build stronger communities.”
