Obituary for Imogene (White) Barnett

Imogene (White) Barnett, age 89, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 just two weeks shy of her 90th birthday.

 

Imogene was born on July 15, 1935 in Paris, Texas to Minnie Rose (Himonubbe) White and James Howard White. She graduated from Saltillo High School in 1953. After graduation, Imogene married Welcome (Gene) Eugene Barnett in Hugo, Oklahoma. They were married over 70 years until Gene’s death in 2024.

 

Imogene graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science and later a Masters in Education. She retired from Sulphur Springs ISD after 24 years of teaching and was a lifelong member of the Classroom Teacher Association.

 

Imogene is survived by her children, Gary Barnett (Stephanie), Terry Williams (Rick), Cary Barnett (Kathy), and Jerry Barnett (Paula); grandchildren, Brandon Barnett (Lauren), Brady Barnett (Lanese), Lance Williams (Kristen), Lindsay McCoy (Jeff), Justin Barnett (Macy), Serenity Barnett, Preston Mays, Katie Barnett, Blake Barnett (Kaitlyn), and Sadie Barnett; great-grandchildren, Beckham, Sloan, Talia, Jolie, Landri, Reese, Bryson, Carter, and Leighton; sister, Betty Eaves (Richard); brother, Glinn White (Marylynn); and sister-in-law, Myrna White.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Barnett; parents, James and Minnie White; and brother, Travis White.

 

A private ceremony will be held in the Old Saltillo Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
