Lucy went to be with Jesus at her home on Sunday, June 1, 2025 surrounded by her family who cheered her on into the arms of her Savior just as she had cheered all of them on in their lives.

Dee Lou “Lucy” Massey was born on November 24, 1939 in her childhood home in Pine Forest, Texas to Dewitt and Annie Monk (Minter) Thurman. She married Thomas E. Massey in Hugo, Oklahoma on June 24, 1957 and they enjoyed over 67 years together. Lucy was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Her favorite place to serve was in Vacation Bible School where she was known for going all out. She would take all her grandchildren who were of age and eventually she would recruit them to volunteer in her class. She also served in Community Bible Study for 29 years in as the Children’s Director and children’s leader, only taking a break here and there to travel with Tom. She loved her fellow leaders, and they became some of her dearest friends.

Lucy is survived by her husband, Tom Massey; daughter, Tina Massey Flora

(Mike) of Como, Texas; son, Tiger Massey (Abigail Silva) of Sulphur Springs,

Texas; daughter, Kyna Massey Saul (Tracy) of Woodway, Texas; grandchildren, Candace Evans (Andy), Colten Flora (Natasha), Corbin Flora (Summer), Megan Mullinnix (Jordan), Madeline Stephens (CJ), Shelby Saul, and Cambry Saul; and great-grandchildren, Miles Jacob Stephens, Ely Evans, Dhealyn Harman, and Dheatyn Harman.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tammy Lou Massey; parents, Dewitt

and Annie Thurman; sisters, Rosemary Thurman and Facie Bynum; and brother,

Bill Thurman.

Lucy, a beloved wife, mother, Gea Gaw, and friend, has left behind a legacy of love, faith, and selflessness. She radiated her deep love for Jesus and unwavering devotion to her family by always being ready to offer a helping hand, a meal, words of wisdom, a prayer or two or 100 or simply whatever was needed. Beautiful inside and out, she had an infectious personality that lit up every room. Her strength, grace, and joyful spirit will be cherished and forever missed. We are all better from knowing and loving her.

The family would like to thank Choice Hospice for loving and caring for Lucy (and Tom). With a special thank you to Kiara Johnson, Leisa Shepherd, and CJ Duffey. They were a gift to us and we are eternally grateful.

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
