Lady Cats Kickoff Postseason Journey With Bi-District Series Against Wills Point

Lady Cats Kickoff Postseason Journey With Bi-District Series Against Wills Point
  • PublishedApril 24, 2025

Another successful regular season is in the books for the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats, who won a seventh consecutive district title and also finished their fourth consecutive year of going undefeated in district play. Now, with their Bi-District series against Wills Point set, the Lady Cats will look to try to keep another impressive streak going, by also reaching the Area Round of the playoffs for the seventh season in a row.

During their impressive seven-year streak of making it to the second round or further, the Lady Cats have been dominant, making it to the third round or further in four of the last six seasons and even making it as far as the Regional Semifinals in each of the last two years. In that time span, the Lady Cats have amassed a combined playoff record of 25-12, never losing a game before the round they were eliminated in.

With all their recent success, and now with Aubrey, the team who has eliminated them in each of the last two seasons, not in their bracket, the Lady Cats could be in a position for their deepest playoff run yet. Before they can think about that, they will focus on the task at hand, which is a best-of-three Bi-District series against the Wills Point  Lady Tigers.

Wills Point enters the postseason with a record of 7-13-1 and was the fourth place finisher in District 13, finishing behind Community, Quinlan Ford and Caddo Mills. The Lady Tigers played seven games against common opponents as the Lady Cats, going just 2-5 in such games. The Lady Cats had much more success, going 4-1 against the common opponents and outscoring them by a combined score of 36-11.

The best-of-three series is scheduled to begin Friday at Community High School, with Game 1 of the series starting at 5 p.m. and Game 2 to begin shortly after Game 1 is concluded. Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, with that game also being at Community High School.

If the Lady Cats can take care of business against Wills Point they would advance to the Area Round, where they would face the winner of Gilmer and Lindale. Both Gilmer and Lindale have had great seasons, with Gilmer winning District 16 and having an overall record of 21-4-2 on the season. Lindale had a strong season in their own right, going 17-9-1 in the regular season and placing behind No. 14 ranked Van and Canton in District 15.
