Life’s Flavors ~Lemon Ginger Soda by The Oaks Bed and Breakfast

March is finally here, and we are ready for the Spring temperatures to come back from the cold of winter. To help us get into the mood for Spring we have our Herb Infused Cocktail of the month, Lemon Ginger Soda. This drink is light and refreshing, especially if you enjoy the flavor of ginger. The best part about this cocktail, it can be enjoyed with or without the alcohol so very easily.
I feel like ginger should be used in more than just cooking, it has so many great benefits that people can enjoy on a daily basis. Ginger can be used to help reduce inflammation, aid in digestion and it’s ripe with antioxidants. Ginger is not limited to these helpful and healthful uses but many others. Since this recipe calls for the use of fresh ginger it’s bound to be a little healthy even with the rum.
Let’s get to the fun stuff of how to make this delicious drink. To prepare before you mix, you need to ready your ginger, lemon, honey blend.
1/4 cup chopped and peeled ginger
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup honey
Blend the ginger with about ½ cup of water until the ginger is smooth. Strain out the solid sand press out any excess water. You should have ½ cup of juice. Mix in the lemon juice and honey. You can store your ginger base in the fridge for up to one week. This base should be enough for 10 drinks. Whip up a batch and enjoy. Use local honey and it will be even better.
Lemon Ginger Soda
1 ounce rum
3/4 ounce Ginger mix
Sparkling water
Ginger slice to garnish
Pour your rum and ginger mix into an iced glass. Top it off with Sparkling water, club soda ortonic water. Just depends on the taste you are going for. Mix it all together to spread the flavors around. Garnish with a slice of fresh ginger.
Overall, the drink is easy to make and easy to enjoy. That Spring yard clean up will be so much better with a glass of Lemon Ginger Soda waiting for you when you finish. Of course, if you want to make this a mocktail, do not add the rum. It’s simple and refreshing.
We hope that you will enjoy this tasty ginger drink. Let us know what you think and of course please be sure to have a designated driver. Cheers!
