Life’s Flavors ~Community In Hopkins County Libby-Thesing

Community involvement has always been a priority for us at The Oaks Bed and Breakfast. We love it when other businesses work with our local High School to help the students learn more about their field of study as it might pertain to a particular business. We know many of the local businesses partner with the High School as part of the Career& Technical Education (CTE) program, while others have a different impact.Such as, Millhollin, a local women’s boutique in Downtown Sulphur Springs, who is currently working with the Graphic Design students from Sulphur Springs High School on a t-shirt contest, that will later be able to be purchased at their shop.

The owner of Millhollin, Charity stated the“students have an exciting opportunity to showcase their creativity by entering a T-shirt design competition hosted by Millhollin. The competition challenges students to create unique spring-themed designs that capture the essence of the season while aligning with Millhollin’s style and brand. This contest not only allows students to apply their design skills in a real-world setting but also gives them a chance to have their work featured by a local business. By participating, students gain valuable experience in design, marketing, and collaboration, while Millhollin fosters community engagement and supports young artists. Designs will be submitted anonymously and voted on in store and on social media. Designs will be out at the beginning of March.”

Once the students have presented their design to Millhollin you,the community will have the opportunity to vote for your favorite. Not only will your vote count, but you will also have the chance to help support these young people if their winning design is selected. All designs will be set out anonymously, to ensure no favoritism. Once voting is completed, the winner will be produced into a t-shirt sold at Millhollin. Be sure to watch social media or stop by the shop for the chance to cast your vote and see these young designers inaction on a product that will be seen all over.

The class teacher, Brandy Fisher has this to say about her wonderful and talented students.“The class not only focuses on the technical aspects of graphic design but also emphasizes creativity, critical thinking and problem solving. They gain an understanding of how design impacts marketing, advertising and business strategies. We do projects for multiple organizations in our school.”

There are five classes that are competing in this competition that are made up a variety of ages from 9th to 12th grade. It’s going to be amazing to see what these students have created for this project, and to see which design wins the day.
