Funeral service for John David “Big John” Verner, age 58, of Josephine, Texas, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Randy Verner and Ray Verner officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Matthew Montoya, George Helton, J.R. Fisk, Rod Murphey, Randy McCoy, Josh Anderson, Perrie Wadley, Kye Verner, Nycco Verner, Anzel Sage Gillis, and Anikyn Gillis. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025. Mr. Verner passed away in his home on February 13, 2025.

 

John Verner was born on December 27, 1966, in Lubbock, Texas, to John Wesley and Virginia Ruth (Bartley) Verner. He married Michelle (Wadley) Verner on March 15, 1986, in Ladonia, Texas. After completing a bachelor’s degree from East Texas A&M University, John went on to work as a logistics manager and was the supply chain manager for Syensqo for more than thirty-eight years. He was known by those who loved him as not only a workaholic but also a cigar connoisseur.

 

Mr. Verner is survived by his wife, Michelle Verner of Josephine, Texas; daughter, Erica Brooke Verner (Matt Gillis) of Big Sur, California; son, Dillon Jacob Verner of Sulphur Springs, Texas; daughter, Nyah Olivia Verner of Josephine, Texas; son, Nycco Lee Verner of Josephine, Texas; grandchildren, Kye David, Anaura Ruth, Skyler Michelle, Anzel Sage, Anikyn, and Blu; brothers, Bartley Ray Verner (Patricia) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Randal Wayne Verner (Nanette) of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and Gary Don Verner of Rowlett, Texas; sisters, Melinda Manley of Merrit, Texas, Virginia Hurse (Gary) of Decatur, Texas, Debbie Nichols (Gary) of Ladonia, Texas, and Nancy Lake (Robert) of Greenville, Texas; sisters-in-law, Rose Verner of Mabank, Texas, Ellise Robertson of Royse City, Texas, and De-Loyce Acosta of Greenville, Texas; brother-in-law, Marc Wadley of Sulphur Springs, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Verner, brother, Wesley Verner; and sister-in-law, Donna Verner.

 

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
