  • PublishedDecember 20, 2024

When it comes to weight loss, finding the right diet can feel overwhelming with so many options available.  From trendy programs like keto and intermittent fasting to time-tested approaches like calorie control and balanced eating, there’s no one-size fits all solution.  The best diet for weight loss is one that aligns with a your lifestyle, preferences, and long-term goals while alsao supporting overall health.  In this article, I hope to…..

  • Help to put your mind at ease by understanding that you don’t have to follow the same approach as others
  • Help you decide which weight loss approach is best for you
  • Eliminate any misleading information you have had about weight loss

Which Diet gives the Best Results?

When choosing a diet for you, choose the one that you can stick to on most days and works to help you with energy balance but also offers nutritional value.  Energy balance means calories coming in versus calories being burned on a daily basis.  For weight loss, you have to maintain less energy coming in also known as a calorie deficit.

Regardless of which approach you choose, knowing how many calories you’re eating each day is key for weight loss.  If you choose the Keto diet (a popular low-carb diet choice) then it’s important to keep count of the proteins and fats (& any low carb foods you may choose) that you’re eating on a daily basis in order to maintain the calorie deficit.  The same is true if you’re following an intermittent fasting plan.  During the eating hours, for best results, you should be keeping up with your caloric intake because even though you’re eating less hours of the day, if you’re not conscious of the calorie density of your choices then you could be overeating energy every day.

Then there is just counting caloric intake every day which based of off what you’ve read so far, is key to helping maintain a calorie deficit and contribute to fat loss.  However, a beneficial approach is counting macros.  Macronutrients (protein, fats, carbs) are what make up the calories in the food that we eat.  Macro tracking is a more sophisticated way of counting calories in that you can ensure you’re getting a balanced caloric intake.  Fats are the most dense macronutrient.  For every gram of fat, you’re getting 9 calories.  If you’re naturally eating more fats every day, you’ll reach your caloric intake more quickly, but you could still find yourself feeling hungry and even fatigued.

How Long Should You Follow a Diet?

Determining how long to follow a diet can be another daunting question.  Honestly, it depends on your goals, but you could get the most benefit out of your diet if you can consistently stick to it for couple of months.  It takes time for our bodies to adapt to dietary changes.  Unfortunately, the unwanted weight comes on a log quicker than it “falls off.”  Because of this, don’t let the scale be your only determining factor of weight loss success.  Energy levels, changes in measurements, changes in body composition, how your clothes fit, and even better sleep are ways to measure success.  Something to consider is, once fat is lost, muscle gain is beneficial to overall health.  Muscle mass helps break down glucose and increase insulin sensitivity which can help decrease the likelihood of storing excess glucose as fat during your maintenance of weight.

What Role can I play in Your Weight Loss Journey?

“Nutrition plays a much greater role in weight loss than exercise,” is what Dr. Peter Attia says along with so much other research.  You can out work a bad diet.  Period.  I am a macro and nutrition coach.  My meal plans follow macros that are set to help you reach your goals and comprised of a balance of macronutrients and micronutrients.  My job is to make eating more nutritionally easier for you by leaving all the planning up to me.

Why count macros and not just calories?  It’s the best approach in ensuring your body is getting a balance of all the macronutrients and micronutrients it needs to thrive.  Message me today for more information and to see how I can help you with your weight loss goals.
