Tricks AND Treats this Halloween Season

Tricks AND Treats this Halloween Season
  • PublishedOctober 17, 2024

How many times have you found yourself binging on fun size candy on Halloween night or even worse, for several nights after the holiday ends? How does that leave you feeling? Is there a way to enjoy sweets without feeling sick or feeling like you have to start all over on your “diet” again?

I’d like to share some “tricks” with you to help you navigate through the temptations of Halloween.

Adding protein to your snack, in this case, will provide you with a couple of things… satiety (feeling full) and less likely to binge eat hand fulls of fun size candy bars. You may consider taking your favorite fun size Halloween treat and crumbling it up on top of a sugar free yogurt cup. My favorite brand is Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt.

When gathering with friends and family at a Halloween party, it can be very tempting to eat everything in sight. I encourage you to use a small plate and fill it with your favorites. Walk away from the buffet and take the time to enjoy every bite of your food. Think about how you feel as your eating to notice when you feel satisfied or full before going back for more.

Don’t feel obligated to keep the entire bucket full of candy from trick-or-treating. Something that you can do with you kiddo which will also help teach them good habits, is go through the bucket and choose to keep some of your favorites. Chunk the rest! You’ll be less like to continue to visit the candy drawer two or three weeks from now if there isn’t anything there or your favorites are gone.

If you can be mindful and use any of these tricks then I suspect you’ll find yourself feeling less guilty about indulging in some treats. Hopefully you won’t feel like you have to throw in the towel and “start all over tomorrow.” Practice moderation and more importantly, practice being kind to your mind and body. A few pieces of candy at Halloween isn’t going to destroy the progress and healthy habits you’ve established.

FYI – Be informed on what you eat.

This energy and vision encouraged Kat to start her own business, De La Grove Agency, a boutique creative agency that offers branding, web design and marketing services. When she’s not working, you’ll most likely find her doing home renovations, road tripping somewhere, hunting for vintage finds or binge watching a new show.
