Graveside service for Darel Crump, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, Texas will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Yantis Cemetery with Byron George officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Mr. Crump passed away at Birchwood Nursing Center in Cooper on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

Darel Dean Crump was born on September 3, 1934 in the Franklin County Community of Purley, Texas to William “Bill” Luther and Maggie “Ola” (Campbell) Crump. He married Edith Evelyn Davis in Quitman, Texas on November 23, 1955. Darel was gifted in the automobile body repair trade, known for his excellent ability to match paint colors between the old and the repaired areas. He was a former co-owning of C & B Body Shop and later Crump’s Auto Repair. He raised his family on the same farm he grew up on south of Sulphur Springs and nothing gave him more joy than working with cattle or being on his tractor. Darel enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors.

Darel is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Evelyn Crump; daughter, Darlene Wood (Glenn); sons, Dean Crump and Dale Crump; grandchildren, Ryan Pounds (Betsy), Promise Melton (Roger), Cameron Crump (Tessa); and great-grandchildren, Justiss Larkin, Hagen Melton, Canon Melton, Kynnedy Crump, Kynzie Crump, and Brianna Pounds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Luther and Maggie Ola Crump, and brother, Billy Joe Crump.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Ultimate Plus Hospice and Birchwood Nursing Center. “Our heartfelt gratitude is extended to the Birchwood Memory Care nursing staff: Melissa Dycus, Donna Yates, Monica Price, Amanda Janes and Linda Huntington who oversaw Darel’s care from day one in their facility until his last.”

Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
