From Humble Beginnings to Medical Excellence: Landon Mabe, a Cumby Native, Achieves His Dream of Becoming a Doctor**
In a remarkable journey that defies the odds, Landon Mabe, from Cumby, Texas, graduated from the Baylor College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine degree on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Growing up in a home below the poverty line in a small town with few prospects, Landon faced numerous challenges along the way. Landon says, he lacked “mentors, who had been through it before” to help guide him.
His journey to success began at Rice University, where he earned a full scholarship through the Questbridge organization.
Graduating from Rice University in 2020. Undeterred by the daunting road ahead, Landon embarked on the rigorous path of medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston during the COVID 19 pandemic.
On May 28, amidst a flurry of excitement and anticipation, Landon proudly walked across the stage to receive his well-deserved Doctor of Medicine degree, marking the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication. He was also awarded with the Hilde Bruch Award for Excellence for his exceptional aptitude for Psychiatry.
As Landon looks back on his incredible journey, he is quick to acknowledge the unwavering support of his family, friends, teachers, and mentors who believed in him every step of the way. Landon says graduating marks “the beginning of a great responsibility towards others.”
Landon will begin his 4-year residency in Psychiatry at the Baylor College of Medicine. He hopes to be the type of doctor he believes his community deserves and wants to help others in the medical field. To aspiring dreamers everywhere, Landon’s story serves as an inspiring reminder that the sky is truly the limit.
