Lady Eagles Pick Up Huge Home Win, Look To Clinch 3 Seed

Lady Eagles Pick Up Huge Home Win, Look To Clinch 3 Seed
  • PublishedFebruary 2, 2024

The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hosted Quinlan Boles Tuesday in a huge district matchup. With a 4-5 record in district play, the Lady Eagles needed a win to keep themselves in good position with the postseason quickly approaching.

Como-Pickton played a strong game, but it was the third quarter that helped them secure the victory, holding Boles to just one point in the entire frame. Going on to win by a commanding score of 44-29, the win would improve their district record to 5-5 and put them in third place in the district with just two games remaining.

Senior Addi Monk led the way for the Lady Eagles, having an impressive stat line of 17 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. She also shot an efficient 8-14 from the field, making the most of her opportunities offensively.

Also finishing in double-digits was freshman Kati Calvillo who had 10 points on 3-4 shooting. The freshman also had four rebounds and went a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

The duo of Cali Morris and Bella Romero also played a huge role, combining for 10 points and 11 rebounds. Romero also added a pair of blocks, while Morris dished out an assist.

The win was huge for Como-Pickton and it sets up an even bigger game Friday Night. While both first and second place in the district may be out of reach, the Lady Eagles have a chance to clinch the three seed in Friday’s game against Fruitvale.

Fruitvale enters the night trailing Como-Pickton by a game, and a win from the Lady Eagles would cement themselves as the three seed and help them out going into postseason play. Fruitvale will also have some pressure on themselves, as they have just a one-game lead over Cumby four the fourth and final spot, who will be facing Boles, a team they’ve already beaten on the road this year.

Friday’s match between Como-Pickton and Fruitvale will be one of the biggest games of the season for the Lady Eagles. They were able to pick up a 46-40 victory in their first matchup, and will be looking to replicate that same success.
