Checked the lint trap on the dryer and emptied it out.  Then I went outside and unclogged the plastic screen on the vent pipe from the dryer.  Now, no dryer fires and better quality of operation.  Amazing how much better machinery works when the filters and screens are clear to do their job.  When cleaned or cleared regularly, they help the machine run smoothly; when allowed to stop up with lint or dirt, they choke the air or fuel supply off and can cause major problems.

Any number of you have enjoyed too many rich treats or greasy burgers and paid the price.  For some of you it was stints or maybe even valve replacements.  Hopefully, you got a tune up and had your tires rotated.

Most of us have enough good sense to do a little preventative maintenance on our equipment to keep them running efficiently.  I even remind my wife frequently to check the air filters to the AC in the house when I’m gone one day and showed her where to find em.  I write on the side of the filter the date they were changed.  I even included info in my little notebook I’ve made for my wife with all the names of repairmen and all our passwords and contact numbers.  Business stuff including life insurance policies are alphabetized in the filing cabinet.  It’ll make it easier for my wife and her next tall, handsome, and hopefully rich husband to locate.

Some of us guys could probably use a little sensitivity training to help us recognize the signs that we’re missing some signs.  You know, the cool or cold shoulder or maybe the “look” when you’ve said something negative about one of her family members or forgotten some date or event that went in one ear and out the other.  I’ve begged her to put her social calendar on the fridge so I wouldn’t have to use up my limited memory space with her stuff.

I’m not good at apologizing.  Seems like most of the time our little tiffs are short-lived.  It takes too much energy, and I might rub a hole in the back of my pants or shirt as we pass in the hall trying not to make contact.  Something’s changed.  The walls are closer together or there’s more of us to love as we tend to rub against one another.

I’ve told you I’m not too sure how smart men are.  I know it would be better to clear the air and admit it was my fault, but I don’t want to wear down my last remaining ten teeth as I grind one against another.  I get to sleep sooner as I cling to the mattress cord in icy silence.  Most likely in the morning all will be forgiven as we’re too tired to hang onto something sticking in our craw.  Yet, I can’t be totally sure she feels equally magnanimous.  Maybe I better keep one eye open just in case.  Seems like she asked something about my life insurance the other day.  Why do I have the feeling I may have misread the warning signs.  I think I mistook a stop sign for a detour.
